Scott's childhood was primarily spent abroad, growing up in various military installations while his father, a career serviceman, served his country in the US Air Force. Following high school and an Associates Degree in Engineering, and like five generations preceding him, Scott enlisted to serve his country in the US Navy where he was selected to train and excel in the highly specialized area of Naval Nuclear Power. Honorably discharged, after nine years of service, Scott returned to his family home in East Texas to pursue the next chapter in his life.
Unknowingly following in the footsteps of his future mentor and predecessor before him, Scott soon made the acquaintance of Reginald Hill, an "old school", quality conscious, skilled craftsman and owner of a family business specializing in retail home furnishings and custom cabinetry. Recognizing his talent, initiative and desire superseded his lack of experience, Hill employed Scott as his apprentice. Scott soon thrived, absorbing the vast wealth of knowledge and teachings of his mentor. Over the coming years, Scott would continue to develop his own talent, expertise and love of woodworking until the unexpected death of Mr. Hill cut his career endeavor short.
Shortly after the death of her husband and being diagnosed with her own health concerns, Donnie Hill along with her children, made the difficult decision to close the family business.
Now unemployed with no job prospects in East Texas, Scott relocated to Dallas, Texas. Utilizing his previous engineering degree and experience gained while in the military, he landed a position IN Process Engineering at Texas Instruments R&D division, where he remained for the next ten years. During this time, however, Scott's passion for wood working and employing the knowledge and skills he'd attained grew and remained strong as he continued crafting projects as a sideline business.
In 2005, amidst TI's economic struggles and constant reorganization, Scott ultimately made a decision to leave the corporate world behind and again devote his full time efforts to the trade he'd courted and grown to love so many years earlier. Scott's small sideline business was now restructured and Woodperfect Custom Cabinetry soon emerged.
Today, Scott's keen eye for detail and superior quality craftsmanship combined with his engineering expertise has earned him the reputation as an exceptional woodcrafter, being relied upon by many as the only resource for elaborately detailed and complex projects. He always maintains the ability to emerge successful when faced with a new challenge. Recent projects, such as the Hilton Garden Inn at Las Colinas for Tribute Hospitality, featured under our "Highlighted Projects", is one of the many accomplishments which attest to this.
Woodperfect Custom Cabinetry, now an established contender in the custom cabinet industry, boasts a customer base comprised of individual homeowners, residential homebuilders both large and small, renovation specialists, architects and designers, commercial construction companies and general contractors. Projects in the Woodperfect portfolio range in scale from small and simple to detailed and complex in nature.
